Remembering Mary Martin

July 10, 2024

Mary Martin, a passionate advocate for victims of sexual assault, passed away on July 4th, 2024, at the age of 85.

Mary had a long and successful career as a music executive and manager, which later brought her to Nashville. She managed artists such as Emmylou Harris, Leonard Cohen, Vince Gill, Van Morrison, etc., and influenced many other musicians throughout her career. She became successful not only through her tenacity and determination but also through her fierce allyship toward the musicians she represented.

She became involved in You Have the Power after she became a victim of sexual assault. The traumatic experience led her to become an advocate for other victims of sexual assault, working alongside You Have the Power. Notably, she worked to implement statewide parole hearing video conferencing for victims of sexual assault, which had a profound impact, giving victims more feeling of power and security.

We will miss Mary’s presence, vibrancy, and advocacy for others at You Have the Power.
