Deputy Chief John Drake, a member of You Have the Power’s Board of Directors, assumed the post of Metro Nashville Police Department’s Interim Chief of Police effective August 6.
DeputyDeputy Chief John Drake Chief Drake will command the Department during its search for a new chief following the retirement of previous Chief John Anderson on June 18.
A 32-year veteran of the force, Deputy Chief Drake previously served as head of the Department’s Support Services Bureau, which oversees MNPD’s aviation, K-9, mounted patrol, and SWAT units. The Support Services Bureau also supervises the school resource officers deployed throughout the Metro Nashville Schools district. This past June, Deputy Chief Drake was tapped to head the Department’s Community Services Bureau.
Deputy Chief Drake has represented MNPD on YHTP’s Board since January 2018. “I believe in empowering and inspiring people to have courage to move forward,” he said. “YHTP does just that.”

Founded in 1993 by former First Lady of Tennessee Andrea Conte, YHTP began by bringing together those whose lives had been touched by violent crime to address these crimes and their consequences, focused on information and prevention. It produces documentaries and resource guides on contemporary issues on crime prevention, such as child sexual abuse and human trafficking; presents community safety training sessions for caregivers, educators, and the public; and administers a victim impact curriculum for offenders/parolees under the oversight of the Tennessee Department of Correction.
