November 30, 2020

YHTP wishes to congratulate Interim Chief John Drake, a member of You Have the Power’s Board of Directors, on his selection as the new Chief of the Metro Nashville Police Department, as announced by Mayor John Cooper on November 30.

A 32-year veteran of the force, Drake was heading the Department’s Community Services Bureau when the Department selected him as Interim Chief following the retirement of previous Chief John Anderson on June 18. Drake assumed the post of Metro Nashville Police Department’s Interim Chief of Police effective August 6. The nationwide search for a permanent chief included Drake as well as four outside finalists.

Deputy Chief Drake has represented MNPD on YHTP’s Board since January 2018. “I believe in empowering and inspiring people to have courage to move forward,” he said. “YHTP does just that.”

Founded in 1993 by former First Lady of Tennessee Andrea Conte, YHTP began by bringing together those whose lives had been touched by violent crime to address these crimes and their consequences, focused on information and prevention. It produces documentaries and resource guides on contemporary issues on crime prevention, such as child sexual abuse and human trafficking; presents community safety training sessions for caregivers, educators, and the public; and administers a victim impact curriculum for offenders/parolees under the oversight of the Tennessee Department of Correction.
