Introducing YHTP’s Updated Crime Survivor Guide!

February 11, 2020

You Have the Power proudly announces an updated version of the Crime Survivor’s Guide, a resource for victims of crime and those who work with them.

This resource guide goes to the heart of YHTP’s mission. The criminal justice process can be a long, hard slog through seemingly endless interviews, arbitrations, and court hearings. People sometimes feel as victimized by “the system” as they did by the crime itself.

The guide explains the various aspects of the investigation and prosecution. These include identifying a suspect in a line-up, how to prepare for court appearances and parole hearings, and victim impact statements. Furthermore, it discusses programs and services that connect crime victims with information about their case, counseling, or compensation.

The guide explains the various aspects of the investigation and prosecution. These include identifying a suspect in a line-up, how to prepare for court appearances and parole hearings, and victim impact statements. Furthermore, it discusses programs and services that offer crime victims information about their case and offender, counseling, or compensation for losses they suffered.

Additionally, the guide explains your rights as a crime victim or witness. It offers tips on how to deal with the media. Finally, the guide features a comprehensive list of terms and phrases survivors may encounter on their journey towards justice.

You can read the whole guide in one sitting, or only focus on the sections that apply to you at a given time. Also, you can contact YHTP at info@yhtp.org or 615-292-7027 if you need details on the finer points of the criminal justice process or if you would like a hard copy of the guide for yourself or your agency.

As a victim, you’ve already lost something precious. Maybe you’ve lost a loved one, your health, your income, your sense of security, your faith in humanity. But your sanity doesn’t have to be next. Let the new Crime Survivor’s Guide help you make the best of a bad situation.

The updated Crime Survivor’s Guide is made possible thanks to the generous support of the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.
