To empower victims of crime–to help them take back control of their lives and communities–is a critical, if not immediately obvious, aspect of You Have the Power’s work.
YHTP CEO Cathy Gurley welcomes participants to one of our Youth Impact Curriculum facilitator training sessions. Here, people who work with teens and young adults learn skills they can use to help at-risk youth rethink their choices and their futures.
Regaining your life after an act of violent crime can be daunting and leave you feeling isolated. By providing support, resources and education, YHTP helps victims understand they are not alone and they are not responsible for the actions of their offenders.
Some of our acclaimed documentary DVDs share the stories of others; they offer real and practical recommendations for healing, education, and prevention. Our community training programs and educational forums engage individuals and organizations in dialogues. This results in a greater understanding of what resources exist for crime victims, what else may be needed, what drives violent crime, and how to prevent it. Knowledge, awareness, and support are the foundation of empowerment and healing, and they are founding principles for You Have the Power.
