Resources for Violence Survivors Affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic

March 19, 2020

We here at YHTP would like to thank all of you for everything you’re doing on your end to fight the COVID-19 pandemic… whether taking care of the sick, coordinating state and local crisis protocols, or self-isolating at home to keep yourself and others safe.

Global crises like this have the potential to bring out the best in us, but sometimes they bring out the worst. In particular, our thoughts are with victims of domestic violence and other forms of abuse who may not be able to leave their homes or are unsure of what services are still available. We want to offer the following resources for anyone who needs support, guidance, or a way out:

National Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-800-799-7233

(If you are unable to speak safely, log on to thehotline.org or text LOVEIS to 22522)

Tennessee Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-800-356-6767

National Sexual Assault Telephone Hotline: 1-800-656-4673 (live chat available at rainn.org)

Crisis Text Line: text HOME to 741741

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-8255 (live chat available at suicidepreventionlifeline.org)

We also wanted to sound a warning about the assorted e-mail scams, malware attacks, and other fraud attempts that have popped up online in the wake of the pandemic. We’d like to offer this summary to help keep you current and watchful.

Finally, YHTP remains available to provide assistance and referrals to local shelters and community assistance programs. Contact us at info@yhtp.org or 615-292-7027.

In terms of YHTP itself, we’re adapting several of our community presentations to a webinar format, updating both content and resources accordingly. We anticipate using these virtual presentations long after the pandemic subsides to provide information on abuse, trafficking, and bullying to people all over Tennessee.

All crises are opportunities for growth, learning, and change. YHTP is adapting to rapidly evolving conditions but looking towards the future. We, like our fellow nonprofits and the nation at large, hope to emerge from the pandemic stronger and more capable of helping the people who need us.
