You Have the Power’s new resource guide, Take Ctrl, explains Internet safety in a way that everyone from boomers to Gen Z can understand.
The guide explains the basics of online safety—being careful about the information you post, the security of your connection, and the passwords you use. Take Ctrl also features a comprehensive section on cyberbullying, explaining how things people say and do online have dangerous real-world effects. Included is a list of warning signs that your child is a victim or a cyberbully themselves, and how to respond.
Other topics covered:
- The dangers of online predators, and how to prevent children from becoming someone’s next victim
- Sexting and the risks inherent in sharing inappropriate photos
- Keeping your computer and other devices free of viruses and other malware
- Internet fraud and how to report a scam to the proper authorities
The guide also includes a list of common apps used by children and teens, what they do, and their potential security risks.
