YHTP is thrilled to announce the appointment of our new Board Chair, Irma Paz-Bernstein. With a wealth of experience and a passion for our mission, Ms. Bernstein is poised to lead our organization to new heights. Speaking about her experience with YHTP, she states, “Serving for YHTP has been a continual discovery of the work that is done, powerful & impactful work. I’m constantly humbled to be part of what Andrea has created. It’s truly transformational to our city & to our people.”

About Irma Paz-Bernstein:

Irma grew up bilingual and bicultural, traveling from Mexico to the United States. After completing her Communication Science and Techniques degree in her hometown Guadalajara, she moved to the States where she continued her studies at UCLA extension program.

Her experience extends from sales, advertisement, to working at the security department in major motion picture studios. Before becoming a business owner, she was an independent television producer for a span of 10 years.

She moved to Nashville in 2001 to partner with her sister to open Las Paletas, which quickly became an iconic Nashville business. The gourmet popsicle shop operated in the 12 south neighborhood for more than 20 years before shutting down during the pandemic.

For the past two decades she’s been an engaged community volunteer serving on projects, organizations and boards giving back to the city that she now calls home.

Irma met her husband while working at her business. He started Bongo Java, the city’s oldest coffeehouse in 1993. Together they have two sons that attend Hume-Fogg Magnet High School, there Irma does her best to find ways to volunteer, just to get a glimpse of them.
